Positioning Yourself As An Obvious Expert In Your Field

A little Question: Are you an expert at anything? Like seriously, are you an obvious expert at what you do? Samuel Eto’o, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres.

Assuming these players above are currently of equal monetary value and as a manager, you were asked to sign just one player from amongst them, who would it be? We all know who it’ll be.

This is the power of an obvious expert. He is not just among the best, he is better than the bests you could find.

The obvious expert is that one person out of the whole bunch you would go to when you are in dire need of serious help. That one person you are sure will give you exactly if not more than the help or solution you need. That is the expert.

It means building yourself to the level where your name is the first that pops up in the mind of someone who needs the kind of service or product your offer.

This is why you first have to discover what you are good at. You could call it your calling or passion. Therefore, a key question to ask is: what really matters to you? What “floats your boat,” as they say? What do you do or think of in your free time? In what area do others ask you for help in?

What activities are you engaged in currently that gives you joy? Whatever it is, that is where your heart is; that’s what you are passionate about. And somewhere, connected to that passion, is your calling.

I can’t begin to count the number of times I have thought of empowering people around me or turning some of my business ideas into big companies.

Mention any of empowerment, entrepreneurship, or leadership and you will get my attention. That’s me!

So once you’ve gotten this good idea, begin to build your energy and efforts around it. Begin to utilize every channel to get the word out about what you do. Share the message with as many people as possible.

Your Facebook, BBM or Whatsapp profile is a good enough place to start from. Make it a routine to share an idea, news or helpful article on your passion at least twice a week and watch your influence grow.

I personally have learned to share ‘How To’ information; those that help people solve specific problems. You will be surprised at the number of people who will gravitate to you.

Whether it is drumming, hair styling, cooking, comedy, writing, speaking, farming, auto repair, whatever it is, you can be an obvious expert.
